Travalle
Travalle is situated on the slopes of Calvana, in this area the Etruscan and most of all the Roman have left numerous traces of their presence, still visible in the landscape and buildings. In the Middle- Age this zone was controlled by the noble Lamberti’s family, ghibelline, but soon the commune of Florence and the most important merchant families, as Della Tosa, that here had farms and elegant houses, took possession of Travalle. Also during the Medicean period, Travalle was property of rich families, as Strozzi and Rucellai, thanks to the richness of the territory for agricolture and breeding. The inhabited centre developed around the villa-farm, a wide building, used by owners and administrators and sideways broad warehouses, a mill, gardens and a thick wood, from which grew out many pathways, that brought to wide peasants’ houses, made by medieval walls, on the top of hills.
