Calenzano, the city center
The city center is situated along the road, that coasts the river. Dominated by the castle, Calenzano began its development on the slopes of the hill, round about the old Ginori’s furnace (actually a private residence).
The development of the current centre dated back to the 19th century, when in addition to the work in the farm and in the furnace, the business of "trecciaiole" began to acquire importance: the name of the centre of Calenzano, "Donnini", is due to the work of straw and to the famous panama of Florence. "Donnini" was the last name of Torello, who was a "businessman", that with his "barroccio" (a little cart) distributed straw to the "trecciaiole" or to farmers.
The center of Calenzano expanded itself and acquired the current features throughout the 20th century.
