The "Museo Comunale del Figurino storico di Calenzano"
The "Museo del Figurino storico di Calenzano" was founded in 1981. Since the mid-1990’s the museum has developed didactic features: the displayed items are the outcome of the joining of a study based on iconographic, documentary and narrative sources and the artistic experience of craftsmen and workers of this business. Through the modeling, the audiovisual means and the experimental and reconstructive archaeology, we pursue the diffusion of historical culture, the development of the regional history and the union of the playful aspects with a correct, scientific message.
When the tourist gets into the Museum, he gets in contact with the world of modelism through a section, that is dedicated to the history, to the different typologies and to the various phases of production of model soldiers. After this first general section, the museum offers an historical trip, that begins with the Etruscan and the Roman civilization, continues with the Middle Ages of castles and Communes; after a cursory glance at the link between war and european society during the 17th and the 18th century, the tourist meets the Napoleonic Age, the Risorgimento and the First World War. The last section is dedicated to men, means of transport and to the events of the Second World War, with particular reference to the Gothic Line and to the Resistance.
Since 2004 the Museum established its headquarters in the castle of Calenzano, where you can find a didactic unit, a centre of documentation and also a group of people, that makes historical reconstruction and that work with important associations of this business in Florence.
