Legri
The inhabited center is situated in the ancient parish of San Severo, which existence is attested by a document of the 10th century. Legri was situated at the crossroad of ancient roads, that down from the mountain or along the river Marina brought to Mugello, where they met the main commercial and pilgrimage roads.
This road system was controlled by the castle of Legri, that was built in the 12th century by the powerful feudal earl’s Guidi family of Modigliana. With the change of road system, during the 13th century, the castle lost its military importance and became an agricultural centre of the Canigiani’s family. Nowadays we can see only the main gate of the castle and the San Pietro’s oratory.
The agricoltural inclination is still celebrated on the 17th January, day of Sant’Antonio Abate, patron saint of animals .
